He's All About The Dialogue

Noticed a cute class writing assignment in the halls of Nechako school.  Students from grade 3 were photographed with a 'yucky face' and wrote a description of the most unappealing food they'd ever sampled.
Most of the writing consisted of just that: descriptions but one young fellow's piece contained 8 lines of dialogue out of a total of 10 sentences.

Eggplant is a very revolting (in a disgusting way) veggie. My tale goes like this...
"Okay Axxxx, try this scrumptious veggie" says Mrs. Mxxxxxxx
"Sure...um...what is it?" I say
"You'll find out especially soon" says Mrs. Mxxxxxxx
I said "Hmmm, okay"  I say, kind-a gross feeling. "Um...I'll try it now"
Next thing I know, I feel like I'm going to hurl.
"I don't want to be rude but...you call that scrumptious?" I yelled.
"that almost made me hurl!"
"Brrrrring!" screamed the lunch bell.
"Gotta run - bye!"

I found his little piece quite inspiring since I find dialogue to be the most daunting aspect of writing. I really like how the bell sound is even given the dialogue treatment!
Perhaps we're looking at the next Tarrantino?

Down In The Holler

Down in the holler where the wind never blows and the sun rarely shines, mountains of snow lie piled on high. It's always a shock to walk around Angle St.  We're in one of the more exposed sites in Kitimat so the snow often appears twice as deep whenever I venture there.  Maybe it really is.  Despite a 3 week melt, the snow is still 1 meter deep in my backyard; bet it could be almost 2 meters deep in some spots there.

Mysteries..Abound...

...when you encounter various articles of clothing on a Saturday afternoon. Makes one wonder about the previous Friday night, don't it??
In the other direction one sees a few extra garments, sodden and scattered across the snow.
I spotted a black garbage bag a little ways away so...it seems somebody (willingly or not) had cast the contents of their bag, willy nilly and probably NOT shed said garments sometime during the past night from their warm inebriated form. For some strange reason as has been witnessed in the past.
Might simply be laundry gone awry.

Back In the Scene Shop Again

You take the key- that extra key in your collection that you posess illicitly, the one that gives you an odd sense of priveledge - you turn the lock then enter.
Years of relationships and collaborations and problems encountered then conquered are contained in the unique, nostalgic scent of The Scene Shop.  Almost every painted surface bears your style.  Hanging over the doors are the portraits, one painted by TwinB and one by you from Murder's In The Heir a production from 5 or 6 years ago. This is where you live.
The illicit key doesn't really bestow privelege as much as responsibility but it makes your life so much easier when called upon to make scenery happen.
Front of a double sided set piece: the top floor of an apartment building for a play to be performed by High School students for the zone drama festival.

Tonight's Specials

On Friday night I (AND The Husband!) attended the most recent Dinner Theatre offerings by On Cue. It was such a surprise that The Husband wanted to attend I'd nearly gone out and purchased only one ticket.  Good thing I waited...
I enjoyed it immensely - there were 5 very well presented short plays, with some rather amazing performances - and our table mates were fun and entertaining.
TwinA collaborated with me to create this poster for the event and I'm very happy as to how it turned out.  Working online with the offspring really help to bring them closer to me and mitigate any empty-nestie type feelings.

Head Bangin' Blues

Wednesday evening saw the return of epic blues singer-guitarist Matt Anderson.
Kitimat loves Matt Anderson.
I'm so glad I squeezed in to this nearly sold out performance.  His voice is HUGE, his slide guitar skills amazing and the vibe was wonderful.  He had far more challenging songs that revealed all his various musical skills and vocal range but I simply loved this beautiful song.
He had us all singing to his final number which was purely delightful.
It was like a mini vacation.

Goodnight Gracie

Said good-bye today to the most light filled young lady I've ever met.  She was 22.
Her father summed up Grace perfectly with this brief phrase: relentless zest.
The Art Club was blessed with her presence for a couple of years and this is where I came into possession of a couple of her whimsical cartoons at our season end art card trades.

She was afflicted with a disorder that first presented as hemiplegic migraines; these progressed to a seizure causing malady and was later diagnosed as a degenerative neuro-muscular syndrome that has yet to be fully understood.  Her Vancouver physician vowed to continue searching for a cause and ultimately the cure that she always hoped to discover in time to save Grace.
A slide show of her life played throughout the ceremony and most photos featured her larger-than-life unique smile.  As the casket exited the church with her crutches placed on top...we experienced one last painful, poignant reminder of her years of resilience and struggle.

It seems a very cruel ... law, almost... that these very sweet, gifted, young lights are extinguished after shining so briefly.
