'Nother One -

- at the finish line! Doesn't have a title but maybe that'll come soon...seems to help if I look at my compositions on the blog
(poor fellow is not only nameless but faceless to boot)
This one was drawn just before Easter one Art Club evening using some of the random bits I'd brought with me and I was indeed thinking of old timey saint poses.

unrequited

is finished! Wooooo-ooo-woot!
Just 20 more paintings to go! I wish all paintings unfolded as easily as this one did - got a couple of landscapes which are being real troublemakers...they just might not even make it...(you hear that paintings???...bastards...acting like they don't even care)
The best approach may be to grab the next thing that appeals to me and tackle the situation in that order. So...who's next??

Pen & Ink on an Epic Scale

Work in progress by TwinB - she's dedicated it to her former boss and current friend.
It's 2 feet by 3 feet which in terms of pen and ink is the equivalent of a mural.

Timeless Classics

Look what I stumbled across as I perused our regional art and craft supply store in Terrace on Monday in search of scratchboard!
Well - I do have an art exhibit to prepare for in November and heck, I could always use a portrait or two.
If only it had been on velvet. : (

A Dirty Sky

There's been significant haze in the sky for the past 2 or 3 days despite brisk inflow wind but no explanation as to where it's coming from.
Dammit, I need to know!
Is a forest fire and if so - where?
(I know it's not dust from the Gobi Desert again because that stuff turns the sky orange)
Maybe I'll check if there have been some big fires in the Yukon or Northwest Territories...
Mystery solved sometime in autumn...this was coming from the aluminum smelter!

Cellar Dwellers

June 29/09
Heading up and out from the basement suite for an excursion on the town
...and a wee dose of light.
Are you thinking it looks suspiciously like a sod hut?? Well you're right - it is an old sod hut out at Heritage Park, however it wouldn't be much darker than TwinA&B's suite hence the frantic activity to produce the faux brick.

The Year of the Brick

This is the finished result of all our faux brickin'. TwinB took to it instantly and has filled in some areas that I didn't have time to get to before leaving.
I've done a lot of brick in the last year.
Glad I got a large section done (my brother is pretty darned thrilled) and it really hit the spot...a spot that I didn't even know needed attention.
Most satisfying - I think it's time to market my abilities and see if there's any demand for this sort of thing.

From There...

To Here
Again.
Little notes and stuff about my trip to Calgary that unfortunately didn't result in the photos that I'd wanted:
A pic of the streetsign showing the intersection of Elbow and Sackville
The bike treadmark on TwinB's leg whilst on the C-Train resulting from a drunken bike rider. (I got run over by a bike while on the train!)
...and the absolutely coolest place I've ever seen! The Gerry Thomas art gallery in the Design District. The website doesn't even begin to do it justice.

Painting Myself...

Nah...not really! Just using the last couple of days before I leave to faux finish the daughters' bare basement floor. TwinB and me is in the fake brickin' bidness.

The UnStampede-ing-est Day Ever!

Today was Art Day! WOOT! (my reaction to all the 'yeehawing' happening around us as we headed past Stampede and on into Calgree's Design District) We started with a visit to the Art Gallery of Calgary - free admission throughout Stampede - then made our way to QuickDraw Animation Society where I purchased a year's membership for TwinB. She is sitting in front of an antiquated piece of equipment with great provenance as it was this very camera that
was used to record the animated short "The Cat Came Back" . (very big in animation circles)
Following this we headed west to discover where the Arrata Opera Centre was located and spent at least 2 hours visiting various art galleries where everyone was oh so happy to see us on this art-loving forsaken day. Alas - by the time we found Arrata the art fair was over for now...however we know where it can be found now so that task can be ticked off the list.
Before coming home we slipped in to Red Lobster for my first meal ever at that fine establishment. Sublime prawns and a superb waiter rounded off our day nicely!

Somewhere Around the Rainbow

The season of Thunderstorms and Rainbows has arrived here in Calgary.
