In my travels throughout the schools of Kitimat I've noticed a mega bizarre skewing of gender numbers. Traditionally you're supposed to see 1.05 boys to girls for the 15 year olds and under so I have been boggled/flabbergasted/flummoxed to note that in Kitimat in the middle grades especially we have a most unexpected mix....try 60 to 80% male. It's extreme enough that I'm going to bug all the school secretaries to give me the break down on gender through all classes. If it's as consistent as it's looked as I've loosely inventoried via Art workshops I just might be bold enough to contact various school districts throughout BC.
It's like living in a sci-fi dystopia...and not in a good way ; )
I'm a little artist in the big, dark woods tracking the progress - or procrastination - of various artistic endeavors as I prepare to leap into a bigger pond. Sprinkled in between these are the extreme weather/scenery of Kitimat and the surrounding region as well as local situations that catch my attention.

Rainbow Solitaire
TwinB has been in Kitimat for the past three weeks, serving time as my assistant; she was supposed to stay for 2 or 3 months but somehow landed a job with L'Arche in Calgary as a relief worker so will be flying back tomorrow. I may be in denial because I haven't approached anyone to replace her just yet. Hmmph. *pout*
So. That's where we are at the moment.

About...82% Fun
We went on a one hour hike through ice, slush, water and snow. Buddy Alanna and I have Kitimat appropriate water proof boots but TwinB was in her Calgary-it-never-rains-in-winter footwear. Not that it matters...she's been embraced by mist once again.

Care of The Cat...or...What Can Be Misconstrued As A Possible Suicide Note
1. Talk to her lots.
2. Give Kitty her space.
3. Beat on her and maul her but if she whines at you or tries to escape, stop immediately.
4. Scritch her bum.
5. She likes to play from a distance...i.e. from under or on top of something.
6. Verbally acknowledge her when she 'bitches'. Ask her "what?" or "what's your problem?"
then check her food.
7. Give her kisses.
8. Continue talking to her lots.
*KITTY IS NOT A TOY*
Ask not what Kitty can do for you but what you can do for your Kitty.
These are some of the instructions that TwinB has left for TwinA to ensure good treatment of Violet while she's back here for the next 2-3 months but somehow 'A wasn't aware that 'B had made the decision to come home even though she'd been complaining to me about 'B's increasing Scatterbrain status.
TwinB was absent when her sister found the list so her first thought was that she was holding a very oblique yet practical suicide note.
Fortunately I phoned shortly following this and clarified the situation, so we're all on the same page now.

The Final Sun of '09
Good riddance to a year filled with tragedies and uncertainty.
The highs just weren't high enough to balance the lows.
Here's hoping for a better year and decade.
